The Farming Culture Museum (Museo della Cultura Contadina) is based in Orbetello and witnesses the history of Maremma’s Southern plains from the early XXth century onwards. The exhibition focuses on the Land Reform dating back to the 1950’s which allowed the reclaiming of farming fields later assigned to farmers purposely moved to Maremma from various areas in Tuscany and other Italian regions. The museum aims at evoking the events occurred during this historical period and how people fought to own a piece of land, which was the only means of survival in those times. Starting from farming life in the early XXth century, through documents on the land drainage and reclamation, up to the Land Reform, visitors are accompanied through this journey by literature, paintings, photos and period documents.
